PlacesToStay.com powers the Resorts & Lodges and Inns and B&Bs areas of AOL Travel. Through PlacesToStay.com, you can browse more than 15,000 unique properties worldwide and make reservations online. PlacesToStay.com is a division of WorldRes.com.

Making a Reservation

Once you find a place to stay and verify room availability, you can make a real-time online reservation. You must be viewing a property’s main page or a list of properties to make a reservation.

Before you book your room, please note the following:

  • You must check room availability prior to booking. If you choose not to check availability before booking a room, you’ll be required to enter check-in and check-out dates when you click Book it! or Make a Reservation.
  • Tax may not be included in the room rate. If it is not included, tax will be determined by the property and added to your total cost.
  • Please read the property’s Deposit and Cancellation policy before confirming with a credit card.

To make a reservation:

  1. If you are on the "Check Availability Results" page, click Book it! or Make a Reservation for the place you want to book.
  2. If you are on the property’s main page, click Book it! or Make a Reservation.
  3. Note: If you have not yet checked availability, you will be prompted to do so when you try to make a reservation.

    The "Make a Reservation — Select Room Type" page appears with a list of all rooms available during your travel dates.

  4. Enter the number of rooms and guests.*
  5. Scroll down and click Make Reservation.
  6. On the next page, verify the reservation information, then scroll down to sign in.
  • If you are a returning visitor, enter your user name and password and click Proceed with Secure Transaction.
  • If you are a first-time visitor, click Continue with Reservation, enter your personal information, and select a user name and password. When you’re done, click Proceed with Secure Transaction.

Important! Please remember your password for future use! Your password is required to make reservations with PlacesToStay.com.

  1. Verify your personal information, and enter your credit-card details. This is also your chance to make any special requests.*
  2. Click Make Reservation.

Congratulations, you have just made a confirmed reservation! An e-mail confirmation will be sent to you and the property immediately.

Please verify your reservation information. You may want to print the page for your records.

* Note: The number of beds do not include rollaways, cribs, or any other extra bedding that can be brought into the room. Please note the maximum number of people each room can accommodate and the age at which children are charged the adult rate. Please remember to include all members in your party, including infants, so that the property may accommodate you accordingly. Special requests such as rollaways, cribs, or other extras may be subject to additional charges. Requests are not guaranteed.

Canceling, Changing, or Viewing a Reservation

You can cancel, change, or verify the details of an existing PlacesToStay.com reservation at any time. To do so:

  1. Click the Current Reservations button on AOL Travel’s main screen, or on the Air Travel, Car Rental or Lodging screens.
  2. Select "inn or B&B reservations" or "resort or lodge reservations."
  3. Select "room-only" reservation or "package reservation."
  4. Enter your PlacesToStay.com user name and password and click Submit. (If you have forgotten them, please e-mail PlacesToStay.com’s Customer Service department (custserv@worldres.com) for assistance. Include your complete first and last name or the name under which the reservation was made.)
  5. Review the summary of your current reservation(s).
  6. Select a reservation by clicking the button to the left of the confirmation number.
  7. Scroll down and click Cancel Reservation, Change Dates, or Change Credit Card/Request.

Canceling a Reservation

  1. Follow steps 1 through 6 in "Canceling, Changing, or Viewing a Reservation."
  2. When you click Cancel Reservation, you’ll see your itinerary and the property’s Deposit and Cancellation policies. Please review the policies carefully! Some properties will not allow online cancellations within a specific time prior to check-in. In this case, please call the property directly to cancel your reservation and to avoid a possible cancellation or "no-show" fee. Refer to your original e-mail confirmation for the property contact information.

  3. At the bottom of the page, click Cancel Reservation Now. You must click this button to cancel your reservation.

If there are no cancellation restrictions, your reservation will be canceled successfully and you will receive an e-mail confirmation. There is no need to e-mail Customer Service about a successful cancellation–a copy of your confirmation will be sent to the property.

 

Changing Dates

  1. Follow steps 1 through 6 in "Canceling, Changing, or Viewing a Reservation."
  2. When you click Change Dates, you’ll see your itinerary and the property’s Deposit and Cancellation policies. Please review the policies carefully for any restrictions on changing dates.

  3. At the bottom of the page, enter a new check-in date. If desired, change the number of nights you want to stay.
  1. Click Check Availability.
  2. If those dates are available, you’ll see a page titled "Change Dates - Available."

  3. Verify the new reservation information. If there is an error, click your Back button and re-enter the information.
  4. Enter your credit card information and any special requests for the property.
  5. Click Submit Changes at the bottom of the page.

The next page will show "Change Dates - Successful." Please verify the new reservation information (your Confirmation Code stays the same). Note that you may also change your credit card information or enter a special request at this time.

You and the property will instantly receive a Reservation Modification confirmation by e-mail.

Note: Currently, you cannot modify room types or the number of rooms listed on the original confirmation. Please call the property directly to make this type of modification. We appreciate your patience while we continue to enhance the site.

 

Changing Credit-Card Information and Requests

  1. Follow steps 1 through 7 in "Canceling, Changing, or Viewing a Reservation."
  2. When you click Change Credit Card, you will see the details of your reservation.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and enter new credit-card information and any special requests.
  4. Click Submit Changes.

On the "Change Credit Card & Comments - Successful" page, please verify the new reservation information (your Confirmation Number stays the same). If there is an error, click your Back button and re-enter the information.

You and the property will instantly receive a Reservation Modification confirmation by e-mail.

About Your PlacesToStay.com User Name and Password

You don’t need a user name and password to browse PlacesToStay.com on AOL Travel, or even to check availability. However, if you want to make a reservation, you will be required to create a unique user name and password.

Please note! Your PlacesToStay.com user name and password:

  • Will only function within the Resorts & Lodges and Inns and B&Bs areas of AOL Travel.
  • Are case-sensitive. We will record your entry exactly as you type it, so please remember if you used uppercase or lowercase letters, or a combination of both.
  • Must be a minimum of 5 characters, up to a maximum of 15.
  • Must be letters and/or numbers only (for example, alex993 or alexsmith). As you type your password, characters appear as asterisks (*) to ensure confidentiality.

Remember your PlacesToStay.com user name and password! We strongly recommend that you record them for future use. Your user name and password are required to:

  • Book online reservations
  • View your reservations
  • Cancel or change your reservations
  • Change your contact information

What personally identifiable information of yours is collected, what organization is collecting the information, how the information is used and with whom the information may be shared?

PlacesToStay.com is owned and operated by WorldRes, Inc.

As a registered member of the PlacesToStay.com Web site, personal information such as your name, mailing address, daytime phone number and e-mail address are collected. You are also asked to create a login name and password to use on the site. Your personal information is stored for your convenience so you won't have to re-enter that information each time you make a reservation.

As a member, you have the option to select favorite destinations and receive special offers and other promotional material via e-mail from PlacesToStay.com, on behalf of the properties in the geographical destinations you've selected. You also have the option to participate in surveys that are used to gather customer feedback. This information is used to make improvements to PlacesToStay.com. Survey participants may be contacted via e-mail or telephone.

When you make a reservation on PlacesToStay.com on AOL Travel, your personal and credit-card information are forwarded to the property at which you have reserved. The property will use this information to process your reservation. A representative of that property or a Customer Support representative of WorldRes Inc./PlacesToStay.com may contact you if there is a question about your reservation.

When you enter a contest or other promotional feature, we ask for information such as your name, mailing address, daytime phone number and e-mail address so we can administer the contest. If you are a contest winner, we will contact you via e-mail or telephone to notify you that you've won and get your permission to post your name on our site's Winners' page. We may verify your mailing address if a voucher or check is to be mailed out to you.

We post the contest winner's first name, city and state on our Past Winners page of the Web site. We share aggregate statistics about our customers, traffic patterns, and reservations with our suppliers and partners, but these statistics do not include any personally identifying information.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Using the Site

Finding a Place to Stay

To find a place to stay, search for the specific destination where you want to go. When you see a list of properties in the area you chose, click a property name to see detailed information. If available, click "Special Offers" "Hot Deals" to see specials, promotions, and packages. All of our properties accept real-time online reservations with instant confirmation.

Checking Availability

Before making a reservation, you must verify that a property has rooms available during your dates of travel. You can check availability from:

  • The Results page
  • A property’s main page

 

Checking availability from the Results page

The search "Results" page lists all properties in a city or region.

Checking room availability from the Results page saves time because it finds only properties with rooms available during your travel dates. You can also search by personal preferences, such as type of property (condo, resort, and so on), amenities, and price range to see only those places that interest you.

To check availability from the Results page:

  1. On the left, select your check-in date in the drop-down lists. Or, click a date on the pop-up calendar.
  2. Enter the number of nights you’ll be staying.
  3. Click Find it!

Now the list shows only properties with rooms available during the dates you selected. From here you can go to the property’s main page to see more information, or click Book it! or Make a Reservation.

Searching by personal preferences

You can search by personal preferences when you want to see a list of properties that match your exact needs and requirements. For example, you can ask to see only vacation condominiums with swimming pools.

To search by personal preferences:

  1. On the Results page, click "Search by travel dates and preferences."
  2. Select check-in date, number of nights, property type, price range, and amenities. (Check-in Date and Number of Nights are required.)
  3. Click Find it!.

Now the list shows only properties with rooms available during your travel dates and that match your specific requirements. From here you can go to the property’s main page to view it, or click Book it! or Make a Reservation.

Checking availability from a property’s main page

A property’s main page appears when you click its name in a list of search results. You can check availability from a property’s page to see a list of all rooms available at that property during your travel dates.

To check availability from a property’s main page:

  1. Click Check Availability or Make a Reservation.
  2. Select your check-in date in the drop-down lists.
  3. Enter the number of nights you’ll be staying and the number of rooms you need.
  1. Click Check Availability.

The "Make a Reservation" page appears with a list of all rooms available for the dates you entered.

Helpful Hints and Tips

When you search by travel dates and preferences, the search engine looks at each of your selections (check-in date, number of nights, and so on) to find properties that match all or some of your search criteria. However, if your search does not return results, please consider the following:

  • Minimum stays: Many places require a two-night minimum stay on weekends and holidays.
  • Widen your search: If you are searching by personal preferences and can’t find a match, try broadening your search by selecting "All" property types and price ranges.
  • Act fast!: Many places fill their rooms quickly, so make your reservations early!

If you still find nothing available, this unfortunately means we do not have rooms for the date(s) you requested. Please try another property or nearby destination if possible.

Viewing a Property

To see color photographs and learn more about a place, just click its name or Hotel Info in a list of search results. You’ll find photos of exteriors and guest rooms, plus detailed information about the property and its surrounding area. Where available, take a Virtual Tour of rooms and exterior views for a 360-degree "you are there" experience.

You can also book a room directly from a property’s main page, or check availability if you haven’t done so. It’s helpful to view multiple properties and compare before you book your room.

When you view a property, you can find information about:
